Why convert GIF to MP4?
GIF is a 1989 image format being asked to do video's job. It stores every frame as a full indexed-color image — max 256 colors, no motion compression. H.264 stores only what changes between frames, in full color. The same clip as MP4 is typically 5–10× smaller and looks better. Twitter/X, Reddit and most platforms silently convert your GIFs to MP4 anyway — this tool just lets you do it first, with control over quality.

Why is MP4 so much smaller than GIF?
GIF stores every frame as a full 256-color image with zero motion compression. H.264 stores only inter-frame changes in 24-bit color. Typical result: 80–95% smaller at better quality.
Does the MP4 have a watermark?
No. Never. No signup or premium tier either.
Is my GIF uploaded anywhere?
No — conversion uses your browser's built-in hardware video encoder (WebCodecs). It's local, which is also why it's fast.
Will the MP4 play at the same speed?
Exactly. GIFs can vary the delay per frame; we write every frame at its original timestamp instead of forcing a fixed frame rate — most converters get this wrong.
Does the MP4 have sound?
No — GIFs have no audio, so the output is a silent video (which is what social platforms expect for autoplay).
GIF or MP4 — which should I post?
MP4 nearly everywhere: X, Reddit, Discord, chat apps. Keep GIF for places that reject video — email, some CMSes, GitHub READMEs. If you need the GIF smaller instead, use the GIF compressor.
Can I convert a batch?
